And for the third Advent, we’re not just opening doors, but also legs. Because for those who want to restrain with more than just hand and foot cuffs, we recommend using spreader bars. Like this seven-piece set from Fetish Fantasy Series, worth Euro 99, which we’re taking a closer look at this week and giving away. A set that makes bondage fantasies come true.
Spread it right, ignite the night
Spreader bars are used in BDSM to restrain the hands or feet of Subs. The thrill of spreader bars is the sexy combination of restraint and opening the legs, making certain body openings not only highly visible but also more accessible for further play. This can also be achieved with ropes, but it is much more time-consuming and requires more know-how. Therefore, spreader bars are a solid and quick alternative to ropes – especially for beginners.
Our test set, named “Spread’em Bar and Cuff Set,” comes with a bar for both the hands and feet, allowing you to restrain either the upper or lower body, or even both. The included nylon strap is incredibly helpful for this. It easily connects the two bars, providing the sub with enough support while further limiting their range of movement. The cuffs for the hands and feet are equipped with adjustable and comfortable Velcro. They feel stable and secure, making them perfect for more intense sessions – and they’re also helpful to prevent cutting off blood circulation.
Support in tough times
The longer spreader bar, with its 64 cm length, is primarily designed for restraining the legs, but can also be used for the arms, such as behind the head.
If you want to spread down below, the long rod works best with the ankle restraints. The sub can then lie comfortably on their back and still move their arms. For those looking to take it a step further, you can also use the 31 cm long rod for the hands.
You can also place the restrained hands behind the head to gain access to the upper body. It’s still relatively comfortable. The most effective option is using both bars with the adjustable strap, which connects them and securely holds the sub in a compact position.
He or she now has to lift the upper body, which creates additional body tension: total surrender with constant eye contact. The bars still allow for one leg to be lifted.
Spread the plate, Bottom’s fate, paddle’s weight!
Alternatively, you can position the sub on all fours, with their hands and knees touching the ground, and their hands and legs spread. This is perfect if you’re heading in the direction of spanking.
But be careful: in this position, the sub still has the ability to move. The lying position is much more effective. We especially liked the standing position.
In this position, the sub is leaned forward or backward against the wall, with both spreader bars fixed at the top and bottom. The shorter bar can be held over or behind the head. It’s recommended to secure the hand bar upward with the strap for extra stability and support.
The big advantage of this standing position is that all body areas are easily accessible—ideal for spanking. A whip is also less likely to get tangled in the bars. This position is also great as a beginner’s option before transitioning to the floor.
A little tight, but oh so right!
And that’s when the real fun begins, with toys like collars, blindfolds, gags, ropes, or even plugs and dildos coming into play. A collar, in particular, can be easily tied to the bars.
Caution is needed for cramps and strains: the use of restraints in combination with a spreader bar should always be done carefully. Staying in the same position for too long or making quick position changes can quickly lead to injuries. As always, a safeword should be agreed upon in advance in case it becomes unbearable. Also aftercare should never be overlooked.
However, it’s not recommended to have the Sub hang and float simultaneously with these bars. There are other sets that are sturdier and designed specifically for suspension bondage.
Cleaning is simple as well. Typically, wiping the set first with a damp cloth and then a dry one is enough. However, to be on the safe side, it’s better to use a toy cleaner.
Material check: The bars, eyelets, and carabiners are made of metal, which are sturdy but not too heavy. They also produce nice sounds when the sub moves. The strap for the bars is made of durable nylon. The cuffs, on the other hand, are made of polyamide. This fabric is softer than silk but more tear-resistant than cotton, which is why it’s often used as the base for ultra-thin yet highly durable garments. Its structure is also so tight that it doesn’t allow moisture to pass through, making it ideal for intense bondage and restraint play.
Stress test: We used the spreader bar multiple times, tried to bend it, and even dropped it. The set withstood all of this without any noticeable damage. The cuffs not only appear to be well-made, but they are also durable. Even a test of suspension didn’t cause them to lose their shape.
Flexibility: Once the spreader bars are in place, the fun can begin. The sub can easily be positioned in different ways using the carabiners, allowing for perfect stroking, penetration, or spanking. Additional flexibility comes from the ease with which the spreader bar can be applied and removed, as well as the discreet carrying bag that allows it to be taken anywhere. While the bars in this set cover most body types and lengths, those seeking more variation in length can purchase additional options.
To sum it up: A spreader bar that’s tight and tough!
A solid and versatile beginner’s set, especially for floor and standing play. Whether you’re a beginner or a more experienced bondage enthusiast, you can’t go wrong with this restraint set.
