Every spring, the trade fair season for the kink and BDSM community kicks off with Obscene in Karlsruhe. For three days, everything in the Karlsruhe Gartenhalle revolves around latex, leather, and more. We were on site with Deviance as a partner of the fair and had the chance to talk to many guests and companies. Alongside familiar faces, we also met some exciting newcomers and discovered fascinating new products. Here are our highlights of the Obscene 2025!
What really got us in the mood
There was more space this year. We always love a bazaar-style setup of exhibitors, but we were happy to see there was enough room between booths to stroll around comfortably. The bondage area was also significantly larger this year, allowing visitors to try out new ropes and techniques on the spot without long wait times.
The fair’s offering was just as diverse as last year: over 80 exhibitors showcased their products and services. The range extended from latex care polishing stations to steel furniture, jewelry, accessories, and harnesses, all the way to platforms for content creators. Local businesses from Karlsruhe were represented as well – including Baumwollseil, a shop well known in the scene and a partner of Deviance.
There was no dress code for visitors, by the way. Instead, the event enforced a strict no-photo policy to protect attendees’ privacy. Only selected, pre-accredited photographers were allowed.
Who took our breath away
Every year, there are new products and services to discover at the fair. Here’s our pick of this year’s newcomers:
Dominflate – designed under pressure
The team from Aschaffenburg developed collars that can be inflated like a blood pressure cuff. You can choose between 5.5 or 7 cm high leather collars that inflate with air. The more air is pumped in, the less air remains for the wearer. Thanks to the wide surface area, the collar doesn’t cut into the skin and inflates evenly. Air can be quickly released via a valve. A truly “breath-taking experience” – best not done alone, and ideally while seated.
Saftladen Originals – freshly squeezed and freshly printed
These two guys from Dresden create bondage devices – but nothing made from leather or rope. Instead, everything comes from a 3D printer. Like their mittens, or “Anchor Mitts,” which completely enclose the hand and are locked with an Allen key. They also designed a clever choking collar. We borrowed the mitts at the fair and gave them a try – definitely a fun idea! They also served up a delicious glass of juice. The name fits perfectly.
Atelier in Silva – accessories to fall in love with
This little atelier was absolutely sparkling. We instantly fell in love with the hairpins, harnesses, and chains. This new booth focused more on accessories than on clothing, which we see all the time anyway. Here, visitors found clever earrings, bracelets, and chains – also worn as tops or belts. Everything is handcrafted with care. Kinky people are known magpies, after all – and we picked up quite a few shiny things.
Who we loved watching from below
This year, our booth was located directly next to the stage, so we had a front-row seat to enjoy all the performances. Once again, the focus was largely on rope shows. The closing show was a true highlight: six pairs were tied up in a row and integrated one another into their performances, sending ropes flying between riggers. It was an unusual yet joyful interaction.
A particularly powerful and sensual performance came from Vaegabound x Sapieha, who also hosted a workshop and presented their own collection of hemp and jute ropes. More on that below.
Another highlight: the performance by Dan Apus Monoceros and his Bottom. As a gay couple, they brought a refreshing change to the stage. Dan is also known for his dramatic flair. We’ll never forget the year he tied his bottom live on stage to “Rise Like a Phoenix.” This year, he entered dramatically in a cloak and lipsynced to the music. He moved his model through one striking position after another, never missing a beat. Very cool.
Aftershow vibes: sensual nights
One of the Obscene’s afterparties was the “Kinky Burlesque.” For several hours, acrobats and burlesque dancers provided an elegant evening program. We were lucky to catch a part of it.
It was absolutely sizzling, and we loved how enthusiastically the audience cheered and whistled.
Let’s whip it, baby, work it all night: learn, play, expand your lust
Of course, Obscene isn’t just about watching and shopping – it’s also a place to learn. This year, there were over 30 workshops for attendees, open to both beginners and experienced BDSMers wanting to deepen their knowledge. Many workshops focused on specific topics in depth rather than offering a broad overview.
Our personal highlights included “Fesselnde Nacht” (Captivating Night) on Friday at the Sessorium. There was nonstop bondage at multiple suspension and floor stations, plus a meet & greet with the rope community and Obscene artists.
Then there was “Latex for every BODY – Every body can shine,” an introductory workshop by Fluffy Queenie all about showing that latex is for everyone. As already mentioned, Vaegabound x Sapieha hosted a workshop alongside their performance – this one focused on “Choking & Breathplay,” exploring safe breath restriction and various techniques.
Another standout was “Sex! Worth! Wanting!” by Britta Theurer & Volker Schmidt, exploring how to have better sex – and how to talk about it even better.
Where photos were allowed after all
But of course, the real highlight of the fair was the people we got to meet again – or for the first time. One particularly special spot was the influencer area, where scene personalities from various disciplines could be met in real life – people you usually only see online. Here, photos in front of the photo wall were allowed.
It’s precisely these physical encounters that make the event special for us. Just like in the Deviance community, where anything is possible: connect digitally, exchange ideas, or meet in person.
Thanks to everyone who stopped by our booth. We’re looking forward to seeing you again next time.
