What exactly is rimming?
A rimjob or rimming describes an oral sex practice in which the anus and perineal region are stimulated with lips and tongue. The tongue can also be used to penetrate the anus. Synonyms for rimming are anilingus, tongue anal or anal licking.
How does rimming work?
There is no primary or secondary sexual characteristic involved in sexual practice. Rimming can therefore be practiced regardless of gender or sexual orientation. The outside and inside of the anus is an erogenous zone with numerous nerve endings that is particularly receptive to stimulation and must definitely be included in lovemaking.
First, use the tip of your tongue to massage the outside of the anus. Alternatively, you can lick the anus with your entire tongue. Circular movements and drumming tongue strokes are also described as stimulating. If you like, you can slowly penetrate the anus with the tip of your tongue, because the tongue muscle stretches the external sphincter particularly gently and the saliva moistens the region slightly at the same time. This is also a good foreplay for further anal games or anal sex. The fingers can also be well involved in this.
Many positions are suitable for rimming; basically any position is possible in which the receiving person’s bottom can be easily reached with their face. For example, queening/facesitting or doggy style are particularly popular.
Rimming in BDSM
Forced and, what’s more, public anilingus served as humiliation and punishment during the Thirty Years’ War, mostly of prisoners. In the BDSM context, humiliation and punishment as part of consensual consent are popular elements, which is why this practice can be easily integrated into the D/s context, for example. “Ass-to-mouth” is directly related to anilingus. The erect member or sex toy is inserted into the partner’s mouth immediately after anal intercourse, which means an indirect form of rimming takes place, so to speak.
“Felching” refers to a sexual practice in which a person licks semen from or from their partner’s anus after ejaculation. Smotherboxes or other BDSM furniture are sometimes used as part of the practice.
What else do I need to know about rimming?
A basic distinction is made between “clean anilingus” and “unclean anilingus”. Anal hygiene is the deciding factor here. The bottom is usually not only cleaned externally, but the rectum is often also rinsed. If only the outer area of the anus is pampered and there are no open spots, wounds or bleeding, there is a low risk of becoming infected with HIV. However, other sexually transmitted diseases, such as HPV, gonorrhea and chlamydia, can be transmitted anally.
A “dirty” anilingus, which shows parallels to coprophilia, emphasis is placed on a dirty anus, from which impurities are then licked off or the anus is cleaned with the tongue. We find this practice, for example, with toilet slaves, who are an extreme form of licking slaves. This poses high health risks because of the fecal bacteria contained in the feces. Particularly worthy of mention here are infectious diseases of the gastrointestinal tract.
Those who don’t want to forego rimming yet desire protection can use so-called dental dams. Especially with new partners, you should always prioritize safety and health.
